Mechanical Engineer

I am a Mechanical Engineer, graduated from the University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, with both an undergrad and graduate degree. In my graduate journey, I spent some time as a Marketing Manager at the university mechanical engineering Junior enterprise where I mostly learned how to be proactive. Later on, following a growing passion for CAD design, I joined a research lab as a an assistant, designing CAD parts for stress measurement systems. After that, I realized a knowledge gap in thermodynamics, so I changed to the Refrigeration lab, in order to fill this gap. There I stayed until receiving my degree, however the most interesting part is that there I began my journey to become a developer, deep diving into python and LaTeX languages.

In spite of my coding passion, I kept on with the Engineering degree and thermodynamic studies, since that was also interesting and seemed like the natural path. Nonetheless, I was carried to the coding world by always being involved in simulation activities, which I quite enjoyed. After my internship, I joined the Post-Graduate program in the university and ended up coding a library for transient simulation of household refrigeration units (my dissertation...) in Modelica language, which was a main challenge since I had zero starting knowledge of the language and, by that time, was not used to (at all) with OO-programming.

Hobbies

I like outdoor activities, such as hiking, enjoying the beach and playing some sports, like tennis or volleyball.

Lately, I have developed a coffee passion, which has become a hobby itself. I like to buy green coffee beans and roast them myself, therefore achieving lighter roasts (which have more complex flavors - and less bitterness), and also using the roasted beans fresh, which helps obtain these complex flavors more intensely.

Data Engineer

Currently acting solo on a bold project within the company, implementing and developing analytics/integrations with the Anzo Graph Database for Knowledge Graph-oriented applications. In-house Layer Owner of the Databricks Platform. Used to act as a Team Lead of the data squad, coordinating over three other data engineers on the day-to-day activities. Deployment of Data Platform tools such as Airbyte, Dagster, Airflow, Kafta, OpenMetadata, ClickHouse, MinIO and several others. Development of diverse data pipelines that run on schedule using Apache Airflow, Databricks Workflows, Dagster and Airbyte. Usually, a single pipeline would consume data from APIs (SOAP and REST), On-prems File Servers, Google Docs, Transactional databases, and straight from websites using Crawlers. Maintenance of several small size codebases which support the Data plarform (dbt, Airflow, Terraform, etc) and cloud infrastructure, such as user, DNS, SMTP server, Kubernetes cluster management. Detection of routine manual tasks that could be automated and design of the automation processes fot such tasks. Day-to-day tools include: Git, Bash, Docker, Kubernetes, Python, SQL, Terraform and cloud interactions (AWS CLI, gcloud, etc).

Research Engineer

Development of simulation tools to predict the transient behavior of household refrigeration systems. In addition, design and operate experimental test benches to gather data and validate the simulation models. Also write papers to scientific journals with the research findings. Presented a master thesis on the comparison of quasi-steady and fully transient simulation approaches applied to household refrigeration units.

Cooling Research Engineer Intern

Research and propose new solutions to increase defrost water evaporation rates in high-efficiency (cold compressor shell) refrigerators. Additionally, design and build a test bench to evaluate forced-draft condenser units.

Marketing manager (volunteer job)

Pre and post company strategies evaluation. Development of advertisement (folders, social media, digital ads, among others) and website (WordPress). Organization of the semester new members selection process.

Education

Federal University of Santa Catarina
Mar. 2017 - Sep. 2020
Masters in Mechanical Engineering

Dissertation about the transient simulation of household refrigeration units. Project in association with Embraco and Whirlpool companies.

Federal University of Santa Catarina
Aug. 2011 - Jan. 2017
Undergraduate in Mechanical Engineering

Acted as Marketing Manager at the Mechanical Engineering Junior Enterprise. Was researcher assistant in two major research laboratories (LabMetro and Polo). Term paper regarding the oil flow in household refrigerators operating with a dual-suction compressor unit.

Federal University of Santa Catarina
Mar. 2010 - Aug. 2010
Undergraduate in Mobility Engineering

Entered because I passed the exam, however my dream was always to be a mechanical engineer, so I dropped it at the very beginning.
